This article, based on data collected during field research, analyses discussions with converts to the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God pertaining to issues of illness and suffering. A neo-Pentecostal church, the Universal Church is active throughout the world. In Brazil, however, it has gained more adherents in recent years than any other faith-based organization. The church relies, in particular, upon the participation of women, who become converts or attend services in the hope of resolving personal and family problems. The church’s discourse relating to illness and an analysis of its curing rituals help us to understand how so many women become converted to this faith.

The objectives of this study are to identify the importance of teleworking during the COVID-19 pandemic and, evaluate the future development of this working form, characterize the process, identify its benefits and challenges, and present some solutions to deal with telework. To this end, the following research questions were formulated: (1) What areas of telework had the most significant impact during the COVID-19 pandemic? (2) What is the impact of telework on productivity? (3) What are the positive and negative aspects of teleworking? (4) What solutions do leaders propose for telework to intensify in the future? The sample for this study consists of 159 participants holding managerial positions. The data analyses were completed and allowed us to study the challenges of leadership in teleworking in direct public administrations. The results indicate that productivity is maintained, although productivity has decreased in the education sector. The positive aspects found were flexibility, better time management, that communication became simpler, and greater motivation. As negative aspects, we found changes in leadership, communication, and lack of material. To minimise the negative aspects of teleworking, the leaders essentially mentioned mixed-work (face-to-face and teleworking), distribution of appropriate material, training, teleworking regulation, and productivity control.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

The Langhian Vc unit of Brielas section (Caparica road, Almada), in the marine Miocene of the Lower Tagus Basin (West Portugal), is rich in batoid species. In this study, batoids are represented by 149 isolated fossil teeth and a single fossil dental plate collected from a bulk sample of washed and sorted sediment. A total of 12 species belonging to the orders Rhinopristiformes, Rajiformes, Torpediniformes and Myliobatiformes were identified. All genera and some species are known to have extant representatives. Aetobatus cappettai Antunes and Balbino, 2006, is described now from Langhian material which suggests it is older than previously supposed. The biogeographic ranges, environmental constraints and behaviour of the species described in this study point out to an infralittoral environment characterized by the dominance of warm water conditions, where episodic upwelling contributed to the occurrence of different types of batoids coexisting in the same habitat

Copyright © 2000 Plenum Publishing Corporation. The vapor pressure and its dependence on temperature of halocarbons for 0.002< p R<1 have been analyzed in terms of universal behavior. Results for CFC-114, HCFC-123, HCFC-141b, HCFC-142b, HCFC-143a, HFC-23, HFC-32, HFC-134, HFC-125, HFC-134a, and HFC-152a for reduced temperatures between 0.55 and 1.0 show that the reduced vapor pressure can be expressed as a function of 1−T R by a Padé approximant. Deviations of the correlated data from the universal function do not amount to more than ±0.06 MPa, with an average deviation of 0.025 MPa. Predictions of the saturation vapor pressures of HCFC-124, HCFC-225ca, and HCFC-225cb, which are the systems used to test the capability of this scheme, agree within 0.025 MPa, that is, within the accuracy of the corresponding states correlation. However, for HFC-236ea, the deviations are as large as -0.07 MPa. The present scheme can be used to calculate the Pitzer acentric factor, and an average value of ω=0.269±0.015 is obtained for all the fluids

Applications of the hard sphere DeSantis equation of state to the estimation of the density of compressed alternative refrigerants.

19th International Congress of Refrigeration. Proceedings The Hague, the Netherlands, august 20-25, 1995.The density of liquid refrigerants is very important for the design of compression cycles in the refrigeration and air conditioning industries. The increasing concern with the environmental protection leads the governments to legislate in order to banish in the short term the use of the CFC's and in the long run the HCFC's. Considering those decisions, the industries need to find new replacements for those compounds, and suitable substitutes seam to be HFC's, fluorinated ethers, their mixtures and mixtures with small quantities of HCFC's. The only problem in using those alternative refrigerants is the lack of knowledge about their properties. Among them, the density is one of the most important. It is the propose of this paper to show the use of a model that allows the user to estimate the liquid density for the refrigerants. The uncertainty of this model is of ± 2.0 % for reduced values of temperature less then 0.95 and reduced values of density less then 1.0. This model needs the information for the critical parameters and the pressure of the saturated liquid-vapour line. The Hard-Sphere DeSantis equation of state Ref. /1/ is use to give physical support to the model. The corrections to the attractive and repulsive part, a and b, have been calculated from a few experimental pure refrigerants Ref. /1/ (HCFC 152a, HCFC 22, HCFC 142b, HCFC 123, HCFC 114)

The protoMIRAX Hard X-ray Imaging Balloon Experiment

The protoMIRAX hard X-ray imaging telescope is a balloon-borne experiment developed as a pathfinder for the MIRAX satellite mission. The experiment consists essentially in a coded-aperture hard X-ray (30-200 keV) imager with a square array (13×\times13) of 2mm-thick planar CZT detectors with a total area of 169 cm2^2. The total, fully-coded field-of-view is 21∘×21∘21^{\circ}\times 21^{\circ} and the angular resolution is 1∘^{\circ}43'. In this paper we describe the protoMIRAX instrument and all the subsystems of its balloon gondola, and we show simulated results of the instrument performance. The main objective of protoMIRAX is to carry out imaging spectroscopy of selected bright sources to demonstrate the performance of a prototype of the MIRAX hard X-ray imager. Detailed background and imaging simulations have been performed for protoMIRAX balloon flights. The 3σ\sigma sensitivity for the 30-200 keV range is ~1.9 ×\times 10−5^{-5} photons cm−2^{-2} s−1^{-1} for an integration time of 8 hs at an atmospheric depth of 2.7 g cm−2^{-2} and an average zenith angle of 30∘^{\circ}. We have developed an attitude control system for the balloon gondola and new data handling and ground systems that also include prototypes for the MIRAX satellite. We present the results of Monte Carlo simulations of the camera response at balloon altitudes, showing the expected background level and the detailed sensitivity of protoMIRAX. We also present the results of imaging simulations of the Crab region. The results show that protoMIRAX is capable of making spectral and imaging observations of bright hard X-ray source fields. Furthermore, the balloon observations will carry out very important tests and demonstrations of MIRAX hardware and software in a near space environment.Comment: 9 pages, 13 figures, accepted for publication in Astronomy & Astrophysic

Teachers’ practices mediate the association between teachers’ ideas and children’s perceived participation in early childhood education

Participation is a fundamental right of all children. Its promotion is considered a key investment in children’s well-being, crucial to support high-quality early childhood education (ECE). In this study we aimed to investigate if ECE teachers’ ideas on children’s participation were associated with children’s perceived participation, analysing the mediating role of teachers’ practices and dimensions of process quality. Participants in this quantitative study were 336 children (163 boys) aged between 44 and 84 months, and 58 ECE teachers (all female) aged between 26 and 60 years old, from 24 randomly selected ECE centres in Lisbon metropolitan area. Using multilevel modelling, given the hierarchical structure of data, we found that ECE teachers’ ideas about participation do influence children’s perceived participation, through teachers’ perceived practices. Further, ECE teachers’ perceived participation practices were associated with children’s perceived participation, through observed participation practices and observed process quality. This study suggests the interdependence of the subjective and objective properties of ECE classrooms, and how both should inform our understanding of the conditions needed to promote children’s participation.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
